Grass and Weeds

The grass is green and tall again the first couple of weeks of spring after its long winter hibernation. But different weeds have also appeared and grown along with it. The unsightly weeds will have to go. They don't belong on my lawn.
Weeds have a way of just appearing. If I don't remove them they will choke my grass and take over my yard.
Tomorrow I will run my mower to trim the grass to its proper height. I will use my weed whacker and spray weedicides. I will then repair the bare spots with a brand of new grass seeds mixed with soil and fertilizer for the purpose. I will make sure the new seeds get enough moisture to sprout and grow to blend with the old lawn. It will entail hard work, but hopefully, a beautiful green new lawn will reappear that is pleasing to the eyes!
Professional lawn maintenance is a profitable business. These people know how to prevent weeds from emerging and can kill them effectively when they do. Most homeowners rely on their experience and research to deal with weeds to make their lawn look good.
It occurred to me that soul maintenance is something similar to soil maintenance. Proper soul maintenance makes for a healthy and beautiful soul. Proper soil maintenance makes for a healthy and beautiful lawn. Keeping one's soul free from giving in to sin and temptations to sin makes for a holy soul. Keeping the soil free from weed seeds or killing them before they germinate can prevent them from sprouting and choking the grass.
Getting rid of sin committed by going to confession restores the soul to health and new life. Getting rid of grown weeds by pulling them out or applying weedicides can make the lawn lush and attractive. Feeding the soul with the Lord's Body and Blood will give it eternal life. Feeding the soil with fertilizer and water will make its grass cover luxuriant.
In Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares, the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ (Matthew 13:27-28)
We need to know the enemies of our souls and fight them.
We need to avail ourselves of the means that will make our souls healthy and well.
After all, our souls are more important than a beautiful well-trimmed lawn. The only important one! #
"Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour."

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." (Philippians 2:12:13)
