Canceling the Snow

The past week, snow has been intermittently falling in our area. Melting snow turns into ice when the temperature drops again to the freezing point. Icy, slippery roads are a nightmare even to skilled drivers who need to go out.

Some of those with experiences of accidents in icy winters might have been tempted to wish canceling this phenomenon of Nature if possible. But obviously, they can't. The old-fashioned shoveling and plowing and spreading salt still need to be done.

Man cannot cancel Nature. Neither can anyone cancel its Author, without horrible consequences.

But the fact is some people want to cancel God in human affairs in the world they did not create. They do it in totalitarian regimes, especially Communism, which, by definition, are godless. (Socialism is a step to Communism!) To use a down-to-earth analogy, canceling God is like disowning one's parents who gave him/her, food, shelter, education and support.

Judging by fairly recent events, it is clear that we are on the way there, once slowly, but now fast unfolding. The cancel culture has emerged, like the Loch Ness Monster, in our midst.

Some examples:

Social media platforms, meant to be means of communication available to all, have become instruments of selective suppression. The targets are those who do not agree with the views and agenda of the owners or those they work for. Their enemies (political, ideological, personal, etc.) and those who promote and live out religious faith and values are unceremoniously banned.

Now schools at all levels take the liberty of indoctrinating students on values contrary to those of their parents who place great importance on their faith and freedom.

Even the pandemic, unwelcome as it is, is being used by worldly powers as an excuse to cancel God by restricting attendance by the faithful at Church liturgies and services, but not bars and other riskier gatherings.

Hostility to religion is palpable among the ruling elite. Their goal: the old culture must be canceled, destroyed.

It is shocking how all these platforms, controlled by some elite few, have been able to act like little gods. God Himself gave man free will, to choose good or evil. But the little gods would have none of it.

As a country, we are used to freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. It would be tragic if all these freedoms were to be taken away by those who want to control our lives. But it will happen if we refuse to see the signs and do something before it is too late.

Who was it who said: "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."?

No one can cancel snow.

No one can cancel God --- either for himself or for others without consequences.

"But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father."(Mt 10:33) and

"whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea." (Mt 18:5)

To the faithful: "Submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)

May God, Who is faithful and true, have mercy on our souls! #

"Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen."
