Pest Control

There is no more insidious enemy that lives inside your house than termites. They enter and live there quietly and unobtrusively until one day you notice tell-tale signs of their presence: little clay tunnels on the baseboard, and to your horror you find swarms of little crawling creatures that have eaten into the wooden parts and damaged your home. And if you do not do anything about it, your home could eventually weaken and collapse.

The pest control industry is very much alive and services of pest control technicians are in demand. It is a multi-million industry.

But much more than the physical structure of our houses are our own homes: our bodies and souls. They are temples of God, and as they are temples we want to keep them sacred and holy, like true temples as the Jewish temple of old where the August God dwelt. They are our Holy of Holies and we should not allow anything impure there that would desecrate it.

St. Paul tells us: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God?" 1 Cor 6:19

The termites of our souls are the evil that try to enter and to them.Satan, the father of lies and enemy of God, prowls around the world seeking the ruin of souls. He is helped by the godless culture which aggressively promote their evil goals.

Next year, a pest control technician will make an annual inspection of our house. If he sees new infestation he will treat the surrounding soil to kill the termites with chemicals penetrating up to where they live. With these strong chemicals, it is expected that new termite colonies will not form and infest our house, at least for a time.

As to the temple that we are, if anything unholy, which is sin, is able to enter it because of weakness or indifference, God provides a means of cleansing. That is the sacrament of Confession. If we form the habit of regular confession we are taking steps to keep our souls in the state of grace.

Like we want to keep our houses solid and strong from destructive pests, we also want to keep the temples of our body unsullied from the intrusions of Satan and his cohorts that want to draw us away from God through sin. But with our vigilance and the grace and care that God in His love and mercy provides us, we will be able to fight evil and keep the temple of our bodies and souls holy and pleasing to Him.#

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Cor 2:9
