More Than Like Butterflies
I did not know that butterflies have a life span of only 2 to 4 weeks until I watched on youtube a reflection of Jesuit priest Fr. Nono Alfonso on "Kape't Pandasal" (Coffee and Bread). He said that these beautiful insects fulfill their "mission" fully within that brief period of their existence, and that we too should be able to fulfill our own mission in life within the short lifetime given to us by God.
Butterflies are indeed beautiful creatures. There are many varieties of butterflies, their wings differently designed with a combination of colors pleasing to the eyes. No wonder butterflies are collector's items.
And to think that they came from larvae or caterpillars, not so beautiful crawling things, but at the right time they are transformed into beautiful gracefully flying creatures.
Man is the best creation of God. The evangelist John was so ecstatic in proclaiming what God has made man to be -- adopted children of God, who shall be like Him, when we see Him as he is.
"See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are. . . . Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is." 1 John 3:-12
We are much much greater than pleasing-to-look at butterflies, morphed from lowly, even ugly, larvae. Our own transformation into children of God at Baptism made us a new creation destined to be like Him when we see Him as He is -- "face to face." This is a matter of faith that is incomprehensible with our finite minds. It is something that should fill us with awe and wonder, make us humble, but at the same time give us reason to be full of longing, gratitude and joy!#
"My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the LORD.
My heart and flesh cry out for the living God." Psalm 84:3
"What is man that you are mindful of him? . . .
You have made him a little lower than the angels,
and hast crowned him with glory and honor." Psalm 8
